Honourable Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon achieved a significant milestone by securing over nineteen thousand votes to represent Lagos Island Constituency 1 during the 10th Assembly of the Lagos State House of Assembly. This resounding electoral victory underscores the profound trust her constituents placed in her to be their voice in the legislative process.
Recognizing her outstanding leadership qualities, the Honourable Speaker appointed her as the Chairman of the Committee on Women Affairs, Poverty Alleviation, and Job Creation. This appointment reflects her unwavering commitment to championing essential causes, such as women’s empowerment, poverty reduction, and job creation within her constituency and beyond.
Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon’s name pays tribute to the Late Oba Adeyinka Oyekan’s legacy of an open-door policy during his reign, and she continues to uphold these values in her public service journey. Notably, Omolara Oyekan-Olumegbon achieved the remarkable feat of being elected to represent Lagos Island Constituency 1 during the 10th Assembly of the Lagos State House of Assembly. This significant mandate reflects the trust and confidence that her constituents placed in her ability to serve as their voice in the legislative process.
Her political journey began in 2011, culminating in her formal entry into the APC in 2014. Notably, she served as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Eti-Osa East Local Government, making history as the youngest appointee among the 57 local councils and Local Councils Development Area in Lagos State. During her tenure, Omolara oversaw Health Services and spearheaded initiatives to improve healthcare infrastructure and a c c e s s to medication. She also facilitated the installation of solar-powered street lights and transformers in the local council, enhancing community welfare. Omolara's multilingual proficiency in Hausa, Yoruba, and English facilitated her role in mobilizing market men and women, ensuring the direct supply of food items to local markets. Her experiences in Eti-Osa ignited her passion to represent Lagos Island Constituency 1at the House of Assembly, driven by a commitment to community development and empowerment.
Omolara commenced her career at International and General Insurance (IGI) as a Compliance Officer, where she gained foundational knowledge in the underwriting industry. She later served as the Special Assistant to the MD/CEO at the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) in Abuja, managing administrative tasks in the CEO's office.
Her educational journey began at Crescent International School, Kano, followed by secondary education at Supreme Education Foundation (SEF), Magodo, Lagos. Notably, she was appointed Social Prefect of the School for her exceptional leadership qualities. Omolara furthered her education at Bowen University, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, and later pursued a Master's degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lagos State University.
